I’m excited to share that I’ve been invited by curators Edith and Jolly deGuzman to exhibit my work at Descanso Gardens as part of Roots of Cool—a group show that celebrates artists working at the intersection of nature and community. This is the biggest art show I’ve been a part of, and it means a lot to me.

My installation in the exhibit reflects years of personal work and quiet activism here in Los Angeles. After moving to LA, and experiencing the heat of the black top, I realized my kids wouldn’t grow up with trees the same way I did. That realization led me to TreePeople, where I started cracking concrete and planting and caring for trees in schoolyards and neighborhoods across the city—sometimes with permission, sometimes just because it needed to be done.
All the while, trees kept showing up in my artwork literally and metaphorically. This exhibition is a way to bring that all together: my life as an artist, a mother, and someone trying to care for the world right around me.
If you're in LA, I’d love for you to see it.
Thank you for being part of my creative community!
Lois

Congrats Lois - that's awesome! We will be out of town on opening day, but I put it on my calendar for July 28, so Mark and I will enjoy all the beauty at Descanso then. So happy for you xoxo
