Women came out fighting the moment Trump was elected. We marched every year and became armchair activists when we couldn’t get outside by tweeting and sharing our voices online. There was a shift in media spaces, as white women shared spaces with black and myopic voices. We knew it was our time to listen. However, as the pandemic worsened, there was an insurrection and a failed impeachment, and the social media posts felt as hollow as “thoughts and prayers” and NOT enough to bring about real change. The efforts of listening however flawed were paid off last night when Shannon Watts,
heeded the call to white women and organized a Zoom call to see what we could actively do this time to elect Kamala Harris for a more just America that will restore the rights we have lost, and the health of our planet. She was inspired by Win With Black Women who immediately knew the assignment the second Kamala Harris got the nod from Joe Biden for the Democratic Party Presidential candidate, and raised over $1.5 million in just 3 hours! Last nights zoom almost 200,000 people attended, listened and raised $8.5 million.
Drawing for me is communication, and a way to share my experience. I was fired up last night listening to these gals and I understand the assignment. We can get up and get off our chairs now. What can you do? Call a friend, text the donation link, and join a campaign. Use the skills you already have, mine is art and communication so that is what I’m going to focus on. See ya out there!
